The fifth person Eddie meets in heaven is a Filipino girl named Tala. She is the child that he saw running in the burning building when he was a soldier. Eddie couldn't handle the thought of killing a young child, so he ran into the building and tried to save her before she was seriously injured or died. This had a big effect on the rest of his life because he had to deal with the pain of being shot in the leg until he died. The only reason he was shot in the leg is because he was in that building trying frantically to save her, not even knowing whether or not there was someone actually in that building. In heaven, she teaches him that he did have a purpose on earth and that he didn't waste his life at all. In fact, he saved many others' lives even if he couldn't save hers. Eddie's hard work as the head of maintenance kept the rides safe for the hundreds of children that rode on them every day. He made sure that they were all up to par, and even in his last moments on earth, he saved a young girl by pushing her out of the way of a falling ride part. I think his final lesson was the most important one because he lived so long feeling like he was worthless, and for someone to show him that he was actually a hero, that must have meant a lot.

The fifth person Eddie meets in Heaven is his late wife, Marguerite. She died when she was 47, and he'd missed her ever since. He was completely shocked when he saw her again after decades of missing her. Eddie couldn't believe that he was finally seeing her again, and didn't ever want this time with her to end.His love for her didn't fade when she died, and he never wanted to love anyone else after she passed away. Marguerite taught him that although people die, love never does, just like Eddie's love for her. He felt so angry about her death, he felt that she was snatched away before he could fully live and love with her, and before she could fulfill her life and goals. She tells him not to be angry, that memory strengthens when you can no longer make new ones. He loved her so much, and when she died, he remained faithful and loving, so much that she could feel it in Heaven.
The Third person that Eddie meets in Heaven is Ruby, the woman that Ruby Pier was named after. At first, he had no idea who he was, and was confused as to why she was the third person that he met in heaven, because he can't remember ever meeting her. She then explains that Ruby Pier was built for her by her husband, and without her his entire life would have been different. Ruby shows him vision of his father and his mother and Mickey Shea, giving him an explanation for his father's behavior. Eddie learns something about his dad inn that moment, something that he'd never seen before, loyalty. He forgave Mickey and saved him from drowning because he was drunk. Eddie forgives his father and lets go of the anger he'd held on to for so long.
Each of these excerpts from The 5 People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom shows a different aspect of war or the affect that it had on Eddie. All of these had a major impact on Eddie as a person, and changed him forever. When his friend died, he only thought of escape before he reached the same fate. He had lost all hope, and even forced Captain to shoot him in the leg because he had no other ideas on how to bring Eddie to his senses. The war taught him the brutalities of life that he wouldn't experience anywhere else. Being held captive for six months with little to no food to eat, forced to mine coal all day, and then seeing someone that close to you die changed Eddie in irreversible ways. The second person Eddie meets in heaven is Captian. Captain was Eddie's commanding officer in the army. He was a lifetime military an with a lanky swagger and a prominent chin that made him look like a movie actor of the time. He had a short temper and a habit of yelling inches from your face, so you could see his teeth, already yellowed by tobacco. He and Eddie had been through war together, and they were like brothers after they were held captive for months together. Captain promised that no man would get left behind, and when Rabozzo, one of his friends as well as someone he commanded died, he could only think of revenge and escape. He helps Eddie follow through with the plan of escape, and the last time they see each other is in the Philippines.
The first person Eddie meets in heaven is the "Blue Man." Eddie plays a big role in his life because he is the one who ended it. In heaven, the Blue Man teaches Eddie that his life was not worthless at all, and that he had to die so Eddie could live. Eddie shouldn't feel guilty that he was throwing a ball because everything happens for a reason, and there was no way he could have known. Each person's life ends so another's can begin, and according to him, no fairness is not involved at all. If that was true, no good person would die young. the Blue Man tells Eddie that although they did not know each other, their lives were connected, and that strangers are just family you have yet to meet. Birth and death are part of a whole.
1/13/2016 "No story sits by itself. Sometimes stories meet at corners and sometimes they cover one another completely, like stones beneath a river."Read Now This quote appears at the beginning of the book The Five People You Meet in Heaven, written by Mitch Albom, which is ironically titled "The End." I believe that this will play an important role in the book because Eddie meets 5 people in heaven. Any of these 5 people could be people that were only in his life for a short period of time, but influenced his life in a major way. Some of the people that he meets could also have been in his life for a long time, and impacted his life in a different way. For example, the "blue man" and the little girl that he meets at Ruby Point appeared at different times in his life for different amounts of time, but they both affected his life in a big way.
Eddie Maintenance is the main character in The 5 People You Meet in Heaven, by Mitch Albom. He is an old and squat man with a barrel chest, thick forearms, and a faded army tattoo on his right shoulder. He has a wounded knee and uses a cane to walk around. He works as the Head of Maintenance at Ruby Pier, and is great at his job. Eddie is slightly grumpy, and he doesn't like it when people call him Eddie Maintenance, but he has a big heart. I can tell that he cares because he shares his only 20 dollar bills with a coworker who is going on vacation with his wife. Although he has no patience for teenagers, Eddie loves little children, and will make them pipe cleaner animals and go on rides with them. He even gives his life for a young girl because she was going to get crushed by a falling roller coaster cart.
